Advertising
Advertising in The Whetstone paper is very economical compared to most publishing companies.  This is simply because we do not maintain a full time staff.  Our paper's goal is to engage our minds  and those of our readers, not to enrich our purses.  Or as stated by Poor Richard below, to avoid excessive poverty.

It is a matter of fact that the bills have to get paid through some mechanism.  The most practical method for providing for the costs of publishing this small enterprise is by providing advertising services to businesses for a nominal fee.

Poor Richard's Take
Courteous Reader, I might in this place attempt to gain thy favour, by declaring that I write almanacs with no other view than that of the public good; but in this I should not be sincere; and men are now a-days too wise to be deceived by pretences however so specious.  The plain truth of the matter is, I am excessive poor, and my wife, good woman, is, I tell her, excessive proud; she cannot bear, she says, to sit spinning her shift of tow, while I do nothing but gaze at the stars; and has threatened more than once to burn all my books and rattling traps (as she calls my instruments) if I do not make some profitable use of them for the good of my family.....
....I think my self free to take up the task, and request a share of the public encouragement; which I am the more apt to hope for on this account, that the buyer of my almanac may consider himself, not only purchasing an useful utensil, but as performing an act of charity to his poor friend and servant.
Benjamin Franklin under the pseudonym 'Poor' Richard Saunders, 1733.
